I don't know if many of you heard the Geezer Butler album Deen played on a while back, G//Z/R, but it's got so many ridiculously fast powerful fills and cool heavy beats that it ranks up there with any metal album, drumming wise. The guy KILLS flams around the kit.

If you don't like heavy singing, stupid lyrics and loud crunchy guitars don't d'l. But if you can block that out, there's some pretty incredible playing from Deen. I especially like the intro and the groove to the Invisible. I don't know if I've ever heard such a heavy beat with such a great sound. I went out and bought it after I heard that thing. The guy is so solid.

Gotta love Deen C. I have his old video that he did in the '90s while he was recording a lot with Shrapnel Records. He is a really funny guy and a GREAT drummer!! One of the things I love about his playing is the FEEL and GROOVE that he puts behind all of that wacky stuff. I can always tell when it's Deen playing. Quick story: I read once that Ginger Fish of Marilyn Manson's band was terrified in the studio while recording that "Antichrist Superstar" record because the producer was talking about how he uses Deen a lot to "Ghost Drum" on a lot of stuff when certain drummers can't give him what he wants! I wonder how much stuff he was on that we didn't really know of. Anyway, if you dig his playing, and want to hear some funny metal stuff to go along wiyh it I would recommend: Tony Macalpine's "Maximum Security" Marty Friedman's "Dragon's Kiss" Cacophony "Go Off" and James Murphy's" Convergence" the Murphy CD has a slamming cover of "Red Alert" bt the Tony Williams Lifetime that I just love. Anyhoo, sorry to be so long winded, but I just think Deen Castronovo is one of the strongest players in this genre, and needs to be recognized for his contributions more. By the way he can sing hus ass off and he is great on that Journey dvd!! Later people! Great to discover such a cool message board! hope I can contribute often!!

FL=left flam ( first one is right grace on a tom and left hand on snare, I love that sound!) B= bass. Have fun moving it around the kit! I always feel like a rock star when I play that fill!!

From the listing of his supercars, he's probably on quite a bit...unless he was paid well for the Ozzmosis record.

Deen's work on MacAlpine's Premonition is pretty cool too.

All that great rock drumming talent, and if anyone here checked out that recent Journey boot on STG, he sings like Steve Perry too! I mean NAILS the tunes, AND while he's playing!

Talk about multi tasking.

wow!
Perhaps, I can be glad, not to understand any of the words of the text.
but I like the melody and the singing of the first two tracks a lot.
I didn't even noticed the drumming and that's a good sign ...

JDoug,

You asked me about a Steely boot a while back. I couldn't find what you were looking for. Sorry.

Thx for the heads up on the Journey boot.
